List of Computing Technologies

What Happened to Monday?

Identity Bracelet

The identity bracelet was used by the government to identify each citizen to ensure they are unique and an only child. This piece of technology allows government workers to view the citizens' photos from all profiles, first name, last name, fingerprint, sector number, age. While this advanced bracelet isn’t far from what we have now, the way the device is used in the movie is a foreign concept. Our smartphones hold all our information, but we rarely allow government officials to rummage through our information and scan us on a daily basis. This device is used later in the movie multiple times as a GPS, mini projector/hologram, camera, listening device, etc.

Duplicating Mirror

This mirror plays a crucial role in this movie as each of the “Karen Settman” uses it each day before they leave their apartment. Each morning, the mirror identifies the anomalies between what “Karen Settman” should look like and the sister who is allowed to go out that day. Since each of the septuplets is so different, this mirror ensures that each of them looks the same before they enter the world which is unaware of their siblings. To my knowledge, there is no technology like this that is widely used or needed, but I think it is implementable.

CryoSleep

This process requires complicated technology which puts the patient into a deep sleep at very low temperatures. Any siblings which are born are sent off to government facilities where they are put to CryoSleep to “wake up to a better world” someday. CryoSleep is something that has been talked about recently, but we have not achieved it yet. There have been many instances of human bodies found in ice and have been preserved which makes CryoSleep seem like it could be possible. If we were able to successfully achieve CryoSleep, we will become one step closer to explore deep space among other discoveries which are not yet possible due to our limits as humans.

Finger Lock Gun

Finger lock guns are used frequently throughout the movie. The important scene is where the finger lock gun plays an important role is where Thursday tries to fire the gun, but cannot. The finger lock gun uses fingerprint scanning to match it to the owner's fingerprint. These guns are fairly new to our world and they have large implications.
